Abortion

Question: How many abortions occur each year in Kentucky?

Answer: Abortion rates have been trending downward in Kentucky since 1990.  See the latest statistics from the vital statistics department in Frankfort, KY

Question: My girlfriend is pregnant and wants to have an abortion, but I don't want her to.  Is there anything I can do to prevent her from having the abortion?

Answer: Tragically, Roe v. Wade and its "right to privacy" gives the woman unfettered access to abortion as a private decision and the father of the unborn child has no standing in the law in Kentucky.  Of course we advise that you seek legal counsel for your particular circumstances.  Also, you might try to persuade your girlfriend to speak with a crisis pregnancy center for help and other alternatives.

Stem Cell Research

Question: What is President Bush's position on stem cell research?

Answer: President George Bush limited federal funding of research to only those embryonic stem cells that were already in existence as of the time of his decision in the summer of 2000.  In other words, President Bush declared that there be no federal funding of research that would destroy any more human embryos.  President Bush supported efforts to ban human cloning for either research or to bring a baby to birth.  He does not support either the creation or killing of human embryos for research.

End of Life

Question: I am writing my living will or advanced directive.  Can you help me to fill it out to respect the sanctity of my life at its end?

Answer: Yes.  There is a "Will to Live" that is recognized as a legally binding living will available here.  Download this document and read the instructions carefully before you complete the form.
